I had a solid knowledge of stance and knew that one should not take a viewpoint when writing an Informative Review Paper. Conversely, a position may be required in a PSA or story to make the information more compelling. In the sciences, I was only made aware of stance’s impact on writing in a negative sense since I was taught that it may impose bias and reduce the credibility of one’s scientific work. While this is true for some genres, such as a scientific journal article or an instructive review, this class has made me aware of the benefits and significance of integrating and acknowledging viewpoints in writing when appropriate.
