Negotiate your own writing goals and audience expectations regarding conventions of genre, medium, and rhetorical situation.
This was a course learning outcome that the students actively assisted me in developing during each assignment. I never used to rethink how I approached a piece of writing based on the audience, but from the first scientific narrative assignment, I was guided in the right direction to ensure that my personal writing goals were still translated into a text that adhered to genre conventions and had the appropriate tone. I’ve improved at matching my work to audience expectations and genre standards. This ability was especially noticeable in my reflection papers, where I skillfully covered background material and personal positions. Furthermore, using digital media in my multimodal project enabled me to reach a larger audience while demonstrating my ability to adapt information to numerous platforms.
