CLO #6
Formulate and articulate a stance through and in your writing
I previously struggled with this course learning outcome, primarily because I believed the definition of science writing was narrow and that making your stance clear in writing would undermine its credibility and receptibility by the public. This was more in line with the constraints of the informative review project. On the contrary, I have learned from researching genres such as the scientific narrative that position in science writing may provide beneficial results that would not have been obtained by writing with a neutral viewpoint. Taking a stance required much investigation and deliberation. I emphasized developing evidence-based arguments, which was especially evident in my scientific storytelling project. These efforts to confront misunderstandings with accurate evidence were visible in my multimodal projects, which included narratives and public service announcements focusing on scientifically researched issues.
